On Monday, North Carolina picked up their 19th win of the season, taking down Florida State on the road. The Tar Heels picked up a 77-66 victory despite a rough night from star forward Armando Bacot. UNC’s Pete Nance was the unsung hero of the night, ending the game with a double-double and picking up the slack for Bacot. Recently, Nance has drawn the ire of some North Carolina fans before picking up his play even more so recently, to which head coach Hubert Davis says shame on them for criticizing the Tar Heels forward.

“I can’t go into specifics. I just think they’re kids, and they’re just kids. And maybe they don’t play the way that you want them to play all the time, but they’re kids,” said Davis when asked what specific criticism he was not fond of.

Nance was one of four North Carolina starters on the game to score at least 15 points. He also led the Tar Heels in rebounds with 10 on the night and added to assist to his total.

The Tar Heels, as a unit this season, have drawn plenty of criticism from their fans. North Carolina started off the season as the number-one team in the country. However, they have had several spells within the season where they have looked like anything else but that. But in the eyes of Davis, fans need to ease up on the criticism and be more appreciative of this Tar Heels team.

Nance shares his side of the lemon Oreo story with Hubert Davis

Just as North Carolina legend Michael Jordan had his “Secret Stuff” in Space Jam, current Tar Heel Pete Nance has some of his own. His is a little different than Jordan’s, though.

Following Saturday’s win over Virginia, Nance told his side of the now-viral lemon Oreos story.

Nance, a transfer from Northwestern, went up to coach Hubert Davis’ office to chat before the game. That’s not unusual. He said they usually talk about things beyond basketball — and, in this case, they were talking about cookies.

Somewhere in their conversation about whether Insomnia Cookies or Crumbl Cookies is better, Nance mentioned he liked lemon Oreos. In fact, those are his favorite. So, when Nance took his usual pregame nap, Davis went to work.

“We were having a debate between Insomnia Cookies and Crumbl. I told him my favorite that I have in my house all the time are lemon Oreos,” Nance said. “He said he had never tried them, so he went to Harris Teeter and got himself a pack.

“I always take a nap in Coach Davis’ office right before the game, so he left me a package of lemon Oreos on the couch. I think a lot of credit to the Oreos, too, I think big time.”
