Hubert Davis didn’t offer much information on why guard Anthony Harris didn’t play Saturday. Following an 88-65 victory against Georgia Tech, the North Carolina coach provided a cryptic update on the sophomore.

“Yeah, he was just unavailable tonight,” Davis said. “My hope is that he’s available in the future, but he wasn’t available tonight. I don’t know how long Anthony will be out. I haven’t thought about that. My hope is that he’s back for the next game on Tuesday against Miami.”

It isn’t clear whether Harris missed the game because of injury or for another reason. The guard has a history of injuries, tearing his ACL during his freshman season in 2019-20. He returned the following year to put up 3.2 points per game off the bench.

Harris has played in 14 games this season, averaging 11.7 minutes per contest. He’s carved out a role as one of the top reserve players for the Tar Heels this season.

A four-star recruit, Harris was the No. 65 overall player in the 2019 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He chose North Carolina over offers from Ohio State, Louisville, Seton Hall and others.

The Tar Heels improved to 12-4 and 4-1 in the ACC with the victory Saturday. They are tied with Duke for second place in the conference, just a half-game behind Miami.

Davis is in his first season coaching the Tar Heels following the retirement of legendary coach Roy Williams. A former North Carolina player, Davis was an assistant on Williams’ staff beginning in 2012. He also spent 12 seasons as an NBA player, beginning his career with the New York Knicks.

The Tar Heels are next set to face Miami at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday on the road. Based on the comments on Hubert Davis, Anthony Harris has a chance to return then.
