The University of North Carolina currently has the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle. Hubert Davis’ four-man class comprises five-star shooting guard Ian Jackson (2024 On3 Consensus No. 2), five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau (No. 9), four-star center James Brown (No. 30), and four-star wing Drake Powell (No. 49).

James Brown chose the Tar Heels over a group that also included Michigan State, Illinois, Notre Dame, and Missouri. The 6-foot-9 center is the No. 4 ranked player, at his position, in the 2024 On3 150. He has experience with the USA Junior Basketball team.

I sat down with Brown after his 12-point double-double performance in the come-from-behind win at the Quincy Shootout to talk about UNC’s 2024 class.

Here is how James Brown breaks down each player.

Five-star PG Elliot Cadeau

“He’s a great point guard; he’s the best point guard in the country, in my opinion. Elliot is really shifty and really quick to get downhill and create for his teammates. He knocks down open shots. He’s just a great player, and he’s hell on defense.”

Four-star SG Drake Powell

“He’s a good athlete and a two-way player. He can really lock somebody up on defense. Drake can get downhill and knock down a shot. He’s going to make it easy to kick it out to someone if I ever get doubled in the post.”

Five-star SG Ian Jackson

“He’s another two-way player who is extremely electric. He’s a quick and shifty guard who can get downhill and finish. I see a lot of him in transition, so he’s real electric in transition and is also someone who can find other people.”

Four-star C James Brown

“I’m a high-energy player. Going to give 100 percent, no matter the conditions of the game. I’m going to effect winning.”
