Northwestern has offered Atlanta Woodward Academy four-star EDGE AJ Hoffler.

Hoffler is the No. 291 overall recruit in the recently debuted 2023 On300 rankings.

He holds offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Duke, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Utah and Wake Forest, among others.

In his offer announcement on Twitter, Hoffler used a singular photo of former Northwestern safety JR Pace. Pace was a three-year starter at Northwestern and a Woodward Academy alum.

AJ Hoffler’s offer from Northwestern is only the Wildcats 8th in the cycle

Pat Fitzgerald and his coaching staff do not hand out offers on a whim or to anybody. The staff is very particular with who can get an offer — and Fitzgerald has said he is the only one allowed to formally extend an offer.

It leads to Northwestern consistently finishing as one of the Power Five programs with the least amount of offers extended each recruiting cycle.

Fitzgerald has stated he wants people who fit the academic profile of the institution and be a fit in their locker room. If they are not a match, he will not offer them, no matter how good of a prospect they are considered.

In the 2023 recruiting cycle, Hoffler is just the eighth recruit to receive an offer from the Wildcats. For comparison, in-state rival Illinois has offered 51 recruits, defending Big Ten champion Ohio State has offered 77 and their oppnent this weekend Michigan has offered 180 recruits.
