Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star junior wide receiver Carnell Tate confirmed he will be back on campus at Notre Dame this weekend.

For Tate – one of the most coveted juniors in the country – it’s a return visit to South Bend after previously visiting campus this summer.

Carnell Tate no longer set for Oct. 8 commit

Carnell Tate had previously indicated to On3’s Chad Simmons that he was going to announce his decision on Oct. 8.

“I know the school I am committing to October 8,” Carnell Tate said in early September. “I have made up my mind. After the summer visits, all the phone calls, and some big talks with my family, I have made my mind up.”

But since then, Tate has delayed that decision. He plans to continue to take visits to other schools, including an expected visit to Ohio State on Oct. 9.

Two-team race for Tate?

Intel indicates that this is a two-team race between Ohio State and Notre Dame for the Chicagoland native. In June, Carnell Tate narrowed his list down to 10 schools. Notre Dame and Ohio State were on it. When he trims the list again, the Irish and Buckeyes will still be there.

“Both are great schools, and I think everyone expects me to have Ohio State and Notre Dame on my final list,” Tate said earlier this month. “I have a good feel for each school and both have a lot to like.

“Notre Dame has a special feel and I like the coaches a lot there. Coach Del Alexander knows what he is doing with players and I really like how coach (Tommy) Rees calls the offense.

“With Ohio State, I really like coach (Brian) Hartline a lot. He is a great coach with a lot of experience, and he knows how to develop players at my position. Ohio State has been producing top wide receivers, too, and that is big for me. They get the ball to their playmakers and the offense is strong.”

Others schools Carnell Tate was previously mentioning heavily were LSU, Ole Miss, Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, Florida State, Illinois, Penn State and Auburn. He has mentioned possibly taking an unofficial visit to Tennessee on Oct. 16.
