Cam Newton uses Justin Timberlake song to troll Notre Dame after CFP snub
Cam Newton used a Justin Timberlake song to troll Notre Dame after their College Football Playoff snub over the weekend. You ever hear the song “Cry Me A River?”
“Oh my goodness, here we go, Dan Demetrius. Or do I want to say Dan Octavius? Well, nevertheless, Justin Timberlake has a song, and it’s called ‘Cry Me A River,’” Newton said on First Take. “Because I really do not care for a Notre Dame fan to look at me and say, ‘oh, man, why don’t we have an opportunity?’ This has been a strategy that Notre Dame has been doing since the College Football Playoffs have existed. And the truth of the matter is, I’m not a bigger fan of the SEC more than I’m a fan of this: quality opponents should be the only metrics that matters in College Football Playoff selection, the quality of opponents.
“Now, when you start to see Notre Dame and who they’ve played throughout the year, these are the biggest question marks, because the two quality opponents that they did play, they lost. You got No. 10, Miami, you got Texas A&M, and then you have these type of (teams) where you’re playing Purdue, you’re playing Arkansas, you’re playing Boise State, you’re playing Boston College, you’re playing Navy, you’re playing Syracuse, and you’re playing Stanford. And those type of resumes that you’re going to hang your hat on, and you’re going to tell everybody in the college football world that, hey, we deserve a chance to play in the college football playoffs, not so fast.”
Notre Dame left out of College Football Playoff
Notre Dame lost to quality opponents, in Newton’s mind, early in the season. They dropped games to Miami and Texas A&M, but beat a ranked USC team. Still, it doesn’t eliminate the sting of Notre Dame missing out, but Newton hammered down on resume over just straight up wins.

“And I do not agree with that. And people love to hate when Cam Newton says I was right a couple weeks ago, I said I would rather a three loss SEC team over in any two loss any other conference. And everybody said, ‘Oh, Cam you’re wrong, oh, you’ve been political with the SEC.’ Well, bro, it’s the truth,” Newton said. “And now you have teams pulling out of contracts with other teams, because these teams are not getting rewarded for playing the best team available.
“It’s now being a caution to the resume that you have, your record, and that’s the most disappointing thing if I’m a fan, I want to see the best play the best weekend, week out, whether in conference or non conference, and that’s what we have to start holding these teams accountable to play the best opponents.”
