Lufkin (Texas) four-star running back Kedren Young announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Monday night. He chose the Fighting Irish after taking an official visit to South Bend last weekend.

Young is the No. 182 overall prospect and No. 12 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 35 player in Texas.

On3 rates Young higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 82 overall prospect, No. 8 running back and No. 18 player in Texas.

“I am blessed to be in this position after a tough ride,” Young wrote in a statement published to Twitter. “I want to thank all of the coaches that have recruited me. I truly appreciate the love y’all have shown me and my family. After a great visit, I am extremely blessed to say I have committed to the University of Notre Dame!”.

Young told Mike Singer of Blue and Gold that his time at Notre Dame went “great.” He could sense how much the coaches cared about him, his family and his success on and off the field.

Young is the latest top-200 recruit to choose Notre Dame

The 5-foot-11, 225-pound tailback met up with multiple staffers, players and commits on his official. They included running backs coach Deland McCullough and Saline (Mich.) four-star quarterback CJ Carr.

“It’s not even just about the name; the community and people are great,” Young said. “I felt comfortable there. This program — everyone knows about Notre Dame — but being around the people and staff, it really changed me.”

Following Young’s commitment, Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class remains No. 7 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. He is one of two running backs pledged to head coach Marcus Freeman and Co. alongside Hannibal (Mo.) four-star running back Aneyas Williams.

Meanwhile, the Fighting Irish’s group is led by two top-50 recruits in Carr and Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South four-star wide receiver Cam Williams. Young is also one of Notre Dame’s four top-200 commits, alongside Carr, Williams and Katy (Texas) Paetow four-star EDGE Loghan Thomas.

“We’re building something special,” Williams told On3’s Chad Simmons on May 31. “We’ve got part of it right now… It’s going to be fun. I’m excited.”
