Notre Dame football is synoymous with tradition and history and Saturday’s home game against Georgia Tech carries extra significance.

It’s senior day in South Bend, and on the eve of one of the biggest games of the year, the Irish social media team put together a touching video to commemorate one of the most successful senior classes under the Brian Kelly era.

Every player who gets the rare opportunity to suit up in the iconic colors, officially labeled “Notre Dame Blue” with the unmistakable “metallic dome gold” helmets are part of a special fraternity that bonds them to the Fighting Irish football program for life.

On Saturday, the No. 8 team in the College Football rankings will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and while there is still plenty on the line for Brian Kelly’s team in terms of postseason aspirations, this game carries extra weight for the seniors who will play their final contest in the iconic Notre Dame Stadium.

“To our seniors, the mark you leave on this program can’t be measured. Passing down the traditions of resiliency, selflessness, accountability, courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood,” the narrator exclaims in the video captioned “Tomorrow, we play for the seniors.

“You’ve challenged us. You have upheld the standards, and you have shown us what it means to be Notre Dame men, so tomorrow, we play for you.”

According to NBC Sports, the current Irish senior class has lost once at Notre Dame Stadium. Add in the fifth-year players’ experience in 2017, and they have lost just twice at home. A win Saturday will make this the fifth straight year with at least 10 victories, 52 in total and this weekend over a mediocre Georgia Tech team would push that to 53.

“This is a group that has won a lot of football games,” Irish head coach Brian Kelly said Monday. “I think over a five-year period of time, they have a chance to be the winningest in the history of Notre Dame football. … They have lived up to the standards and I think have understood what now the standard is at Notre Dame and they pass that on.

“This is pretty rare air that they’ve been flying.”

Though there are many factors in play, Notre Dame has a chance to make Saturday’s senior celebration a memorable tribute to a clearly respected group. Georgia Tech’s offensive line has been shoddy at best, and the Irish are coming off a dominating win over Virginia where the defense racked up seven sacks.

Saturday has the makings for a special day for everyone involved with the Notre Dame program, and it feels like the Irish are prepared for victory.
