Kyren Williams broke out in Notre Dame’s games against Virginia Tech and USC, and he had another huge game against North Carolina on Saturday night.

In the fourth quarter, Williams broke off a 91-yard touchdown run to give Notre Dame a 38-27 lead. Not only was the scamper one of the longest plays of the year, it was one of the best and more physical. Williams emerged from a sea of defenders, gave a nasty stiff arm to a Tar Heels defender, got the corner, and broke away for the score.

The junior running back had 217 yards on 24 touches, including 202 yards on the ground.

Head coach Brian Kelly compared Williams to former Irish running back Theo Riddick earlier this week, and the comparison certainly made sense to anyone watching Notre Dame’s top offensive threat on Saturday.

Irish top UNC to move to 7-1

It was another ugly win for Notre Dame in a season where they keep finding a way to post victories. They won 44-34 on Saturday.

Defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman’s unit continues to struggle to hold a lead, seemingly always allowing an opponent to score after Notre Dame piles on points. The Irish defense clearly missed Kyle Hamilton, as the UNC offense posted 554 yards of total offense and 28 first downs. He has not been ruled out against Navy next week, but it is more likely he will return for UVA on Nov. 13.

Thankfully for Brian Kelly and Co., the UNC defense struggled greatly as well. Notre Dame posted 528 yards of total offense and 27 first downs. It was the fifth time this season UNC has allowed 35+ points.

The Irish host Navy next weekend in their third-straight home game. They will presumably move into the top 10, as Michigan, Iowa and Ole Miss lost on Saturday. The first College Football Playoff rankings will be released Tuesday Nov. 2.
