Clemson and Ohio State are two of the dominant forces in college football and have been for several years. This past weekend, they both did something both teams hadn’t done in seven years.

What was it?

Check out the graphic below from FOX College Football.

It was the first time in seven years both teams suffered a loss through Week Two of the college football season.

Clemson’s offensive line got absolutely manhandled by Georgia’s defensive line in Week One.

As for Ohio State, their Week Two loss to Oregon gave the Ducks one of the biggest wins in their program’s history and they couldn’t celebrate enough.

Oregon defensive back Verone McKinley III

The win was massive for the Oregon Duck program and the Pac-12.

It was also huge for Oregon defensive back Verone McKinley III, who got his shot at redemption. In 2019, with nine seconds in the game, McKinley III gave up the game-winning 26-yard touchdown pass that handed Oregon a 26-21 defeat against Auburn.

This afternoon against Ohio State, he got his redemption in the biggest of ways. McKinley III had the game-sealing interception by picking off Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud with 2:50 left in the contest.

In 2019, he was named a Freshman All-American by the FWAA. He also earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors once.

Clemson could not handle the Georgia defensive line

College football fans across the country and many members of the media knew Georgia’s defensive front was good before the Clemson game, but that good? Seven sacks for Georgia’s monstrous front.

SEC Network’s Gene Chizik named Georgia’s defensive line the best in the SEC for the 2021 season. Against Clemson, their behemoth defensive line showed up and acted like it.

Jordan Davis is 6-foot-6, 340-pounds, Jalen Carter is 6-foot-3, 310-pounds, and Devonte Wyatt is 6-foot-3, 315 pounds. That’s an insane amount of size to deal with on the defensive line. Not only that, they’re incredibly athletic for their size, as Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has noted.

PFF released a mind-blowing stat about Clemson’s offensive line. In the entire 2020 season, Trevor Lawrence was sacked 14 times. Against GeorgiaD.JUiagalelei was sacked seven times in one game.

Clemson faces their next opponent on Saturday, Sept. 18. Their game against Georgia Tech will be nationally televised on ABC. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. EST. Ohio State will face Tulsa on Saturday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. EST and will be nationally televised on FS1.
