Former Ohio State defensive back Jahsen Wint is still on his quest to rejoin a collegiate football team after his dismissal from the Buckeyes in 2020. Wint entered the transfer portal on Thursday, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Wint and former teammate Amir Riep were charged with first-degree felony rape and first-degree felony kidnapping by the Franklin County Municipal Court. They pled not guilty to the charges. Both appeared sparingly in the Buckeyes 2019 playoff run. Wint finished his time with Ohio State with 40 tackles in 35 games played at safety.

Amir Riep entered the portal in November, though he hasn’t found a new home yet.

There has been no update on the legal status of Riep or Wint since Mar. 7, 2020, when the two entered their not guilty plea. Wint’s eligibility and transfer status remain in question with future legal and NCAA implications unknown.

Wint is a native of Brooklyn, New York. He signed with Ohio State as a three-star prospect in 2016.

Wint enters transfer portal

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal goes through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer valid. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school does not have to reoffer a scholarship.
