Tampa (Fla.) Wharton four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson has decommitted from Ohio State. The 6-foot-1, 190 pounder had been committed to the Buckeyes since April.

Johnson sent a statement to On3 regarding his decommitment:

First and foremost I would like to thank the man above for putting me in the position that I’m in today, without him there  isn’t a Dijon Johnson.

Secondly, I want to thank everyone at The Ohio State University for their time and effort of recruiting me. I am thankful for the relationships that I’ve built  over the past year especially with Coach Alford, Coach Walton and the players.

Lastly after long talks with my family I’ve decided that it’s best for me to decommit from The Ohio State University and I will be re-opening my recruitment. I look forward to the journey of finding my new home!

Johnson Scouting Report

“One of the more physically-imposing top cornerbacks in the 2023 cycle, measuring at 6-foot-1, 187 pounds with a wing-span over 6-foot-4,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Pairs the high-end speed and length with good straight-line speed, running an electronically-timed 4.58 second 40-yard dash prior to his senior season. A fluid mover with a smooth and coordinated back pedal. Has shown the ability to transition from his backpedal and flip his hips in downfield coverage. Shows some signs of being a risk-taker at the high school level, jumping passes. Looks like a pure cornerback as opposed to some of the other big defensive backs in the cycle. Older for the class.”

Dijon Johnson currently ranks as the No. 98 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 9 cornerback, and the No. 23 player in the state of Florida.
