Tampa (Fla.) Wharton defensive back Dijon Johnson gave Ohio State its ninth commitment in the 2023 class this afternoon when he pledged to the Buckeyes. Johnson chose OSU over Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and USC, among a number of other major programs.

He is the No. 312 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 30 cornerback and the No. 60 junior prospect in Florida.

But the Industry Comparison tool shows On3 is drastically higher on him than any of the other three major recruiting sites. While On3 tabs him as the No. 62 overall prospect in the class, no other site has him ranked higher than No. 113 overall (ESPN). 247Sports ranks him as their No. 213 prospect, and Rivals has him unranked.

Dijon Johnson stands out to On3’s Charles Power

On3 was the first to rank him this fall, putting him in the initial 2023 On300.

“The tall corner continues to rise with a good junior season and continued evaluation in the camp setting,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote last month. “Dijon Johnson has plus size at 6-foot-1, 187 pounds with a wing-span over 6-foot-4. He’s a smooth mover and coordinated in his back pedal and shows good speed in the camp setting.”

In his scouting summary, Power took his praise even further.

“[Dijon Johnson] pairs the high-end speed and length with good straight-line speed, running an electronically-timed 4.58 second 40-yard dash prior to his senior season. A fluid mover with a smooth and coordinated back pedal. Has shown the ability to transition from his backpedal and flip his hips in downfield coverage. Shows some signs of being a risk-taker at the high school level, jumping passes. Looks like a pure cornerback as opposed to some of the other big defensive backs in the cycle.”
