Minneapolis (Minn.) Totino-Grace four-star recruit Taison Chatman tells On3 he has committed to Ohio State.

Chatman, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard in the class of 2023, chose the Buckeyes over Minnesota, Virginia, Xavier, and Kansas.

The stock-rising senior is Ohio State’s fourth addition to the class. He joins four-star SF Scotty Middleton (No. 45), four-star PF Devin Royal (No. 46), and three-star C Austin Parks (No. 187).

Chatman is the No. 47 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also ranked as the No. 7 shooting guard in the class and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Minnesota.

Chatman breaks down his commitment to Ohio State

“I chose Ohio State because I believe they can help me reach my goals and develop me the most both on and off the court,” Chatman said to On3. “Also, I have a really good relationship with the staff so when I went on my visit it just felt right and felt as if I was already a part of the team.”

What type of player is Ohio State getting in Taison Chatman?

“I’d say Ohio State is getting a player that’s willing to come in from day one and do whatever is necessary to win,” he says. “I’m very competitive and love winning so I will do whatever it takes to accomplish that.”

Chatman has a message for Buckeye fans.

“Buckeye nation, I can’t wait to get on campus! I truly think Coach (Chris) Holtmann has built something special and I can’t wait to be a part of it! I hope y’all are excited for the next few years to come.”

Scouting Summary

Taison Chatman has a basketball frame with good size and nice length. What stands out the most in his game is his ability to play in the pick and roll. He can make all the reads and does so with a never rushed pace. The motor can get hot and cold, and there are times when he looks disengaged. Chatman has deep range, and he is comfortable off the bounce or off the catch. He is an intriguing 2/1 combo guard who can play off the ball or initiate in certain offensive sets. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst
