The Ohio State offense got some good news on the eve of the Peach Bowl against Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals: Head coach Ryan Day said running back Miyan Williams will be healthy and available to play.

Williams came into the postseason nursing an injury — along with opt outs TreVeyon Henderson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba — but was much closer to playing than Henderson was and isn’t off to the draft like Smith-Njigba. After getting back in practice on Thursday, Williams will be in the lineup on Saturday night.

“Yeah, back to practice yesterday, so he’ll be ready to go,” Day said.

Williams has 125 carries for 817 yards and 13 touchdowns this season in 10 appearances for Ohio State. He’s not as adept catching passes, with five receptions for 27 yards and no scores.

Williams was never expected to be out for an extended period

It was a scary scene when Williams was carted off the field against Indiana in early November. But by the time the game ended — a Buckeye beatdown on Indiana — Day wasn’t overly worried about the back.

Williams eventually came out of the locker room and was on the sideline in street clothes with a walking boot on. Day said they’ll assess things on Sunday after Williams gets a night of rest, but he doesn’t expect it to be “long term.”

“I don’t think that these — hopefully these are going to be some things that we can overcome here in a short period of time,” Day said. “Great to see our depth show up. We’ll have to see. But it didn’t look like, based on what we saw here in the locker room, that it was going to be something that was going to be really long term.”
