Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day took some time on his radio show recently to talk about prized freshman running back TreVeyon Henderson. The talented freshman has taken the college football world by storm in his first year.

His head coach talked about how the uber-talented tailback still has plenty of juice left in his legs.

“He’s been getting stronger and been getting better and in a routine,” Day said. “When you’ve played six games now, you’re not really a freshman anymore. That’s kind of the way we look at it. But like you said, I don’t think he’s had a bunch of carries. He’s still got a lot of tread left on the tires.”

Henderson did not play football at Hopewell in the fall of 2020, due to the state of Virginia moving its high school fall sports season to the spring of 2021, as a result of COVID-19.

He enrolled at Ohio State in January 2021 to get an early jump on his college football career. Ryan Day is correct, he does have a lot of tread left on the tires. With the limited carries he’s gotten, Henderson has already raced his way into the Ohio State record books.

Not only has he set the Ohio State freshman rushing yardage record in a single game (277 yards vs. Tulsa), but he currently ranks second in the nation in yards per carry (8.74 yards per carry). His 10 rushing touchdowns currently put him in a tie for 10th in the country. Thus far in his freshman campaign, he’s shredded opposing defenses to the tune of 612 rushing yards on 70 rushing attempts.

The talented freshman has been racking up eye-popping stats despite having a very limited number of touches. For the 2021 season, Henderson has only averaged 11.67 rushing attempts per game, ranking him 100th in the nation.
