Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater running back Cedric Baxter Jr. just named a top schools list on New Year’s Day, but the offers keep rolling in. On Tuesday, Oklahoma’s new coaching staff extended an offer to Baxter, his 40th in total.

Baxter is the No. 61 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 4 running back and the No. 13 prospect in Florida.

On3’s own rankings are a bit higher on him, pegging him as the No. 44 overall prospect and No. 1 running back in the country.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder named his top seven schools in an interview with On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. Among them: AlabamaFlorida StateTexasOhio State, UCF, Arkansas, and USC.

The Sooners’ previous staff had not offered Baxter, in large part because they already had a commitment from four-star Treyaun Webb. However, when head coach Lincoln Riley left for USC, Webb decommitted and left OU’s new coaching staff without a running back in the 2023 class.

Baxter told Simmons that this list was far from final. Florida and Miami are two in-state schools that recently made head coaching changes. Both are expected to be involved. Oklahoma State recently offered and Baxter said he would look into the Cowboys more.

“Things could still change. I am going to start setting up visits in the next couple of weeks, then get out and see some schools.”
