The Oklahoma Sooners kick off year one of the Brent Venables era in less than a month. The team starts the year with two games at home before heading to Lincoln, Nebraska for a pivotal game versus the Cornhuskers. Lincoln Riley’s Sooners lost the Big 12 title for the first time in seven seasons last year, giving Venables’ new team a clear goal to shoot for in 2022.

On3’s JD PicKell breaks down how the Oklahoma Sooners’ 2022 season could play out on The Hard Count.

Here are PicKell’s full predictions for the Sooners’ schedule:

PicKell has the Sooners starting the season off hot with five straight wins heading into the Red River Rivalry. The On3 analyst likes Venables’ squad pulling off the fourth consecutive victory versus the Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl. He doesn’t predict a loss until the Baylor Bears visit Norman in early November and has the Sooners closing out the regular season at 11-1. He also takes it beyond the regular season and predicts a revenge match versus Baylor for the Big 12 title.

Oklahoma is coming off of an 11-2 finish in 2021 that included an Alamo Bowl victory against Oregon. Brent Venables hopes to bring what he learned about winning championships in Clemson with him for his first head coaching gig.

The Sooners’ roster underwent a lot of changes with the departure of Lincoln Riley, losing the top two quarterbacks and receiver Mario Williams to the transfer portal. They also had several key members of the defense leave for NFL careers. Personnel has changed but the roster is revamped and expectations remain high as ever for OU.
