College coaches are out on the road recruiting all over the country, but that’s not stopping several from staying in shape. New Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables stopped by Jesuit High in Tampa, Fla., and made sure to do some pull-ups while he was there.

The Jesuit Oliva weight room is becoming a very popular spot to break a sweat.

Venables could have been attempting to one-up Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Wolverines headman knocked out some squats last week, which was itself a one-upping of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.

Harbaugh reportedly did 20 reps despite being in a button-down and pants. Why that number? The Jesuit head coach told Harbaugh that Ryan Day had done 16 in the same weight room the previous day.

Venables eyes top-100 linebacker at Jesuit

Jesuit is attracting the top coaches in the country like Brent Venables and Him Harbaugh not just for its gym. The Tigers boast a top-100 prospect in the 2023 recruiting class – Troy Bowles. Bowles, a 6-foot-1, 206-pound linebacker, is the son of Tampa Bay Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

Bowles is the No. 45 prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle. He holds offers from Oklahoma, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Rutgers, Georgia and a number of others. The On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Ohio State as the favorite to land the four-star.

Brent Venables is working hard to wrap up his 2022 recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 8 in the nation. He has 14 four-star prospects committed, though he’s faced some personnel hiccups early with the transfer portal.

Some of the biggest names entered the transfer portal and left the program — including five-star quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and Caleb Williams. Former five-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood did as well. Even a couple of Sooners followed Riley to play for the Trojans.
