As the Oklahoma Sooners players entered the stadium for their CWS Finals matchup with Ole Miss, fans greeted them with a huge reception. The players were flanked on both sides by excited fans hours before the first pitch was scheduled to be thrown, showing how important a national title would be for the Sooners program.

Oklahoma at the CWS Finals

The Sooners started off the NCAA Tournament with a bit of drama as they narrowly passed Florida in a 5-4 win in game three to decide the Gainesville regional. From there, they took down Virginia Tech in the super regional with a 2-1 record — only to go undefeated in the CWS on their way to the finals.

Now, Oklahoma is only two wins away from a national title as they prepare to play a best-of-three series with Ole Miss. The fans in attendance have no shortage of energy as Oklahoma attempts to make history in the tournament by winning a title in the same year as their program’s softball team did. No school in the history of the CWS and WCWS has won both tournaments in the same season.

In their way is an Ole Miss team that nearly reached the CWS Finals as an undefeated team — before losing a game to Arkansas and forcing a winner-take-all game three to send them to the finals. The Rebels have been one of the toughest pitching and fielding teams of the postseason, and Oklahoma’s bats will look to find offense against them similar to their previous games of the tournament.

Oklahoma hasn’t scored less than five runs in any game of the NCAA Tournament, and has scored over ten runs in three games.

The College World Series Finals are set to begin at 7 p.m. ET, with games two and three on Sunday and Monday, if necessary.
