Oklahoma shocked No. 9 Texas Tech on Wednesday, defeating the Red Raiders 70-55 in Norman. The Sooners rode the hot-hand of guard Umoja Gibson, who scored 30 points in the victory.

Afterwards, Porter Moser reacted to Gibson’s insane effort in his post-game press conference.

“It’s huge,” Moser stated, regarding Gibson’s 30 points. “You know what I love about Mo — he was 0 for 6 at Oklahoma State. And he took it to heart. I thought Mo’s defense was very good tonight. I know he had 30, but I thought he had very good defense. Played 36 minutes. He had to play some point guard. Had to guard bigger guys, everybody was 6’6” or bigger, it seemed like. I thought he had a great defensive game.

“But, he came back from Oklahoma State and does what he always does — got in the gym. Got in the gym, got reps up. Didn’t panic. Went to work. He works on that shot-fake, sidestep three all the time. I mean, he makes that in practice, he works on it. And I thought we were moving the ball really well. You have to against Texas Tech. But the one things is, even when we had a comfortable — the first half, fourteen points, sixteen points off turnovers — and we settled down. The second half, they only had two points. But I thought we defended and rebounded for 40 minutes. I thought that’s been a key. That was really good.

“But I thought Mo’s performance — on both ends — he was a two-way player tonight.”

As you can see, Moser believes what the rest of us saw — Gibson was fantastic on Wednesday. With showdowns against Kansas and Texas on the horizon, Oklahoma will need repeat performances out of their star if they’re looking to add some more upset victories to their resume.

Porter Moser reveals injured guard’s injury, playing status vs. Kansas

On Wednesday, Oklahoma freshman guard Bijan Cortes was unavailable during the Sooners’ victory over Texas Tech due to an undisclosed injury. Afterwards, coach Porter Moser revealed the injury, and whether Cortes would be available for their next game — a Big 12 showdown with Kansas on Saturday.

“I doubt it, because he’s in that five-day concussion protocol,” stated Moser, regarding Cortes’ status for Oklahoma’s upcoming game against Kansas. “It’s a concussion. Today, he didn’t have headaches. Like, that’s good. You can start to get out of your protocol. As of right now, we don’t think there’s any chance. We don’t think the five days will be up.”

While Oklahoma took care of business against Texas Tech without Cortes, his presence will be missed if he can’t go at Allen Fieldhouse. The Sooners will be looking to pull a huge upset, and it’ll need an all hands on deck effort to do so.

On the season, Cortes has appeared in 22 games for Oklahoma. Averaging 12.5 minutes per game, the freshman is scoring 2.2 points per game. Additionally, Cortes is averaging 1.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. His best performance of the season came against Baylor, when the guard scored six points, dished out five assists and pulled down three rebounds.
