Four-star cornerback Braxton Myers of Coppell (Texas) High announced his commitment to Ole Miss Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-1, 190 pounder was formerly committed to USC, before decommitting on September 7th. He chose the Rebels over LSU, Auburn, and USC.

Myers on why he chose Ole Miss

“My goal is to reach the NFL, and he will do a good job of helping me do that in the best conference in college football,” Myers said. “It;s competitive and they don’t just want me, they need me. Ole Miss wants me to come in and contribute right away as a freshman. That was a big part of my recruitment, because I never heard a coach say they needed me.”

Legacy + Strong relationship with coaching staff

“My dad was also committed to Ole Miss out of high school, and ended up going to Alabama instead,” Myers said. “Coach Carter, the DB coach, has been recruiting me ever since I was an incoming freshman. Also, while I was committed to USC, they kept on recruiting trying to get me up to Oxford. I went to Oxford for the second time in July and had a really good time being around all the staff. Coach Kiffin is such a great guy to be around and I can’t wait to play for him. I also realized I wanted to be in a college town and knowing Oxford is a top college town in the world.”

Ole Miss’ plan for Myers

“I feel like Ole Miss fits me the best, just being able to show everything that I do,” Myers said. “For example, fitting the run as a big corner, also playing press man, off man, etc. Just showing how I can be an all around corner in the SEC.”

Braxton Myers Scouting Summary

“Smooth defensive back with size and ball skills,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Measured at 6-foot-0.5, 188 pounds prior to his junior season. Has plus length with a 6-foot-4 wing-span. Plays cornerback at the high school level, but has the versatility to play a few different spots in the secondary. Uses his length and coordination to locate and high-point the ball in contested situations. Shows the ability to get physical in coverage. Bodies smaller receivers on routes across the middle of the field. Embraces contact as a cover down defender working in the flats and against the run. Does not have positive verified athleticism in the combine or track settings. May best project at safety long-term due to his size, athleticism and overall skill set.”

Myers currently ranks as the No. 215 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts all four major recruiting services. He also tabs in as the No. 25 cornerback and the No. 39 player in the state of Texas.
