Former Ole Miss stars A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf made headlines a few years ago, when leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft, they decided to show their muscles off to the world and show that they are indeed two of the most chiseled human beings on planet Earth. The duo of former Rebel wide receivers both made headlines this offseason, as they were able to cash in on their second contracts. Ole Miss football social media decided to take a victory lap about the news a few days ago.

It’s a brilliant move by Ole Miss social media to all of the future recruits they are pursuing. Come to Oxford and you’ll get paid once you make it to your second contract in the NFL. It can be hard enough to make it to your second contract for many players in the league, so Metcalf and Brown have every reason to celebrate their big paydays.

Brown agreed to a four-year extension worth $100 million with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

The former Titans’ star has had an ugly divorce from his former team, to say the least. It’s too bad because he established himself as one of the game’s elite stars with them. Over the past three seasons, Brown hauled in 185 catches for 2,995 receiving yards, while reeling in 24 touchdown catches.

It was absolutely incredible what the former Ole Miss star did during the 2020 season, playing on two bad knees. He ended up making the Pro Bowl that year, despite needing cleanup surgery on both knees following the season. Last season, he battled a number of various ailments (knee, hamstring, chest, and calf), but still played in 13 games.

An elite athlete coming out of high school, Brown was recruited by Ole Miss to play both college baseball and college football. He became the second player after Kyler Murray to play in the Under Armour All-America Game for both football and baseball. Not surprisingly, Brown was highly thought of by the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2016 cycle. The former Ole Miss star was rated a four-star prospect and as the No. 42 overall player in America, according to those rankings.

D.K. Metcalf signed a three-year, $72 million contract extension

As for Metcalf, he signed a three-year, $72 million extension with the Seahawks just a few days ago.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported $58.2 million of the deal is guaranteed and his $30 million signing bonus is the highest ever for a wide receiver.

Metcalf emerged as a top target in Seattle during his career after the Seahawks drafted him No. 64 overall in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Last season, he totaled 967 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns. He sat out mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason as the contract dispute went on. Metcalf was holding in amid the contract talks, meaning he reported to camp but wasn’t participating.

Now, the former Ole Miss star has a new contract as training camp gets underway for the 2022 season. He’ll have a new quarterback, though, after the Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason.
