Ole Miss running back Jerrion Ealy just gave Mississippi State some great bulletin board material ahead of Saturday’s matchup. Asked about facing off against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl next week after last night’s Ole Miss win, Ealy did not hold back his thoughts.

“It’s a very important game,” Ealy started, via Nick Suss of the Clarion Ledger. “It actually means something this year. Both teams are pretty good. This game is going to be a very valuable game.”

Ealy is right in saying that Ole Miss and Mississippi State are both good teams. Ole Miss is 9-2 on the season and 5-2 against SEC opponents. Mississippi State is 7-4 and 4-3 in the SEC. Neither team has a shot at making the SEC Championship, as Alabama locked up the SEC West on Saturday. But the game will still have high stakes between the two top 25 squads.

Ealy on Ole Miss heading to Mississippi State: ‘It’s Stinkville to me’

After starting by saying both Ole Miss and Mississippi State are good teams and the game will be important, Ealy then took a big shot at the Bulldogs. Ealy gave a new name for Starkville, the home of Mississippi State.

“You’re going to hate the sound of cowbells,” he said. “You’re probably going to hear cowbells for two weeks after the game. It’s Stinkville to me. It stinks there. I don’t like mud. It’s just so muddy. I don’t know. I just don’t like it.”

Ealy is Ole Miss’ leading rusher this season with 588 yards and 6.1 yards per carry on 96 attempts. He also has four touchdowns on the ground and 140 yards on 20 receptions. Ealy, a junior, is no stranger to Mississippi State. Last year Ealy ran for 93 yards and a touchdown on the Bulldogs in a 31-24 Ole Miss victory. He had 82 yards and a score as a freshman in 2019 against Mississippi State.

Through three seasons with the Rebels, Ealy has rushed for 2,055 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per carry on 347 attempts. He also has 19 touchdowns on the ground. Ealy has also had a small role in the passing game, adding 55 receptions for 467 yards and two touchdowns.
