DeSoto (Texas) wide receiver Johntay Cook was set to see Florida next weekend for an official visit. But plans have changed, and the four-star pass-catcher will now head to Ole Miss instead.

Cook is the No. 47 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 wide receiver and the No. 7 junior in the state of Texas.

Cook currently has official visits scheduled Oregon (June 17) and Michigan (June 20). He recently named FloridaTexas A&MTexasMichigan and Jackson State as his top schools, but the Ducks have ostensibly replaced Jackson State with his scheduled visit to Eugene.

Cook has been on campus on Texas and Texas A&M numerous times. And he could use official visits to see them later this summer or potentially this fall. He is being choosy about his visits, and previously included Ole Miss in his top 12 and top seven schools list. He is yet to visit Oxford, but the Rebels will now get a chance to make an impression next weekend.

“I’m trying to be really precise about where I go for official visits because I don’t want to waste any,” he previously told On3. “It’s about the coaches that hit me up, about who likes me, who needs me and where I want to go play football.”

Johntay Cook Scouting Summary

“Smooth-moving receiver who is one of the better route-runners in the 2023 cycle. Shows the ability to tempo and toggle speeds within his routes. Can win at all levels of the field. Has long arms with a 6-foot-4 wing-span at 5-foot-11.5. The length helps create a large catch radius. Productive and efficient as a junior while facing top competition at one of the top talent-producing high school programs in Texas. Scored 18 touchdowns on just 38 receptions as a junior. Will need to continue improving on his reliability as a pass-catcher and eliminate concentration drops.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
