The Ole Miss Rebels’ baseball team officially won their first national crown in school history on Sunday evening after defeating the Oklahoma Sooners 4-2 in Game 2 of their best-of-three matchup in the CWS Final. In their historic run, the Rebels were propelled by the excellent pitching of their ace, Dylan DeLucia. He was named the Most Outstanding Player for the 2022 College World Series. His numbers were impeccable–in four starts, DeLucia went 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in just over 28 innings of work.

Here’s the video of the newly minted Rebel legend hoisting the coveted hardware to the sky.

DeLucia delivered the goods when his team needed him the most

Ole Miss punched their tickets to the CWS Final after DeLucia pitched a masterpiece of a complete game, shutting out the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday for a 2-0 victory. The right-hander only allowed four hits in the shutout and fanned seven batters. He spent his first two seasons at Northwest Florida State College. Rest assured, the Rebels’ ace delivered the goods when his team needed them the most, pitching the first shutout by a SEC pitcher in the College World Series since LSU’s Brett Laxton did it in 1993.

He was also named to the 2022 CWS All-Tournament Team. DeLucia turned in yet another masterpiece in Omaha against the Auburn Tigers on June 18th — holding the Tigers to just one run in 7 1/3 innings of work, while firing 10 strikeouts.

For the 2022 season, DeLucia finished an 8-2 overall record with a 3.68 ERA, with 105 total strikeouts in 95.1 innings of work.

Ole Miss was the final team to get the call for the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday. Now, they’re the final team standing at the College World Series, claiming college baseball’s most coveted prize.

Only two games were required against Oklahoma in the championship series — the Rebels had to come back on Sunday afternoon. While the bats may not have been as electric as Saturday, Ole Miss was able to win thanks to elite base running and miscommunication from the Sooners’ bats.

As soon as the final out was recorded, the party was on in Omaha. Well, probably in Oxford as well.

Players stormed onto the field from the Ole Miss dugout and near the pitching mound. The dogpile was on, as a season’s worth of work was completed with the ultimate goal. Stringed confetti flew from the sky as well, making it a true national championship celebration.
