Ole Miss hosted its annual Pro Day on Wednesday as part of the pre-draft process and a number of top NFL-ready talents had the chance to showcase their skills in front of NFL scouts.

Not the least of those was running back Zach Evans, who topped 1,000 total yards from scrimmage for the Rebels last season.

But it wasn’t so much the running that Evans highlighted as something he’s trying to show off to NFL scouts as much as his knowledge. He wants them to know he can do just about anything in the backfield.

“My talks are real good,” Evans said. “I feel like on my end I’ve been real efficient with knowing my protections, knowing the run game, knowing the scheme and stuff like that. Being able to answer their questions the way they want them to.”

The one thing that Evans has been consistent with in the pre-draft process has been his willingness to talk with teams or take meetings or workouts whenever offered.

He’s not going to leave any opportunity by the wayside.

“Most definitely. Like I said, whoever called I’m picking up and I’m coming,” Evans said. “Private workout, no workout, meeting. I mean if I’ve got a meeting for 30 minutes I’m going.”

That kind of dedication in the pre-draft process will help reinforce the player scouts see on their screens when they’re going through tape. Evans was a hard runner, willing to take on contact and willing to be versatile.

He racked up 936 yards and nine touchdowns rushing in 2022, as well as 119 yards and one touchdown receiving.

That has him on the radar of plenty of NFL teams.

“For the noise I’m starting to get a lot of buzz,” Evans said. “I’ve been talking to like the Jets, the Vikings, the Cardinals, the Bills, the Cowboys, I want to say Washington. I mean I’ve been getting some noise. The Giants. I’ve been talking to a couple teams.

“So far right now all I know is I’ve got the Cowboys coming up for a team visit, Carolina Panthers for a team visit. I want to say I’ve got the Jets too. Still answering phone calls, just going day by day.”

Until all that settles out and the pre-draft process is over, Evans is just doing everything in his power to be attractive to NFL teams. You never know which team could be in the right position at the right time.

Whatever it takes.

“Everybody knows how that is,” Evans said. “People can switch up, people can trade up, it might be something they need. Whatever it is, though, I just want teams to know I’m willing to play special teams, I’m willing to do what I’ve got to do.”
