California head coach Justin Wilcox broke down Oregon Ducks star Bo Nix and what makes him different from other quarterbacks during his matchup preview on Wednesday. The Golden Bears host the Ducks at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

“He’s playing at a really high level,” Wilcox said. “He’s a really talented passer and he’s not just a willing runner, he’s a good runner. When you have a quarterback that does that, he can operate the passing game like a traditional quarterback and he can operate in an RPO or run game and be really effective. So, the math on defense changes when the quarterback can do that.”

The No. 8 Ducks are the favorite on Saturday with a 82.5% chance to win, according to the ESPN matchup predictor. Bo Nix is coming off of one of his best performances of the season, making it just that much tougher for the Golden Bears versus their Pac-12 foes.

On Saturday, Nix went 22-for-28 with 283 passing yards, 51 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Through seven games this season, Nix has thrown for 1,809 yards and 17 touchdowns, with 3 interceptions. He also has 382 rush yards and 8 more touchdowns on the ground.

Nix explains difference in his play at Oregon versus Auburn

Following the Ducks‘ win over UCLA, the nation has officially tuned in to the Bo Nix redemption tour in Eugene. After a poor start to the season versus Georgia, the former Auburn Tiger has led the Ducks to six wins, each with final scores above 40 points.

In Nix’s post-game press conference, a reporter asked the quarterback to describe factors that have led to his performing at levels he only flashed occasionally at Auburn.

“Well, I think obviously there’s a whole lot of dynamics that go into it,” Nix said. “Different schedules you’re playing, different teams you’re playing, different personnel, different staffs, different offensive schemes, so it’s hard to say that the other coaches didn’t get it out of me because at times I was doing the same thing at Auburn.

“It was just the consistent part. We’re doing that now and it speaks to all 11 of us. All 11 of us who are out there are being consistent. Every once in a while we’ll have a hiccup drive and we’ll have to go three-and-out and punt, but we know it’s not going to happen a second time. Consistency is the main thing we’re doing offensively right now.”
