With a win over Oregon State, Dan Lanning will have taken Oregon to the PAC-12 Championship Game in his first season as a head coach. That’s no small accomplishment. However, it’s not the only reason why this rivalry game is so important to fans on both sides of this one.

While speaking to the media, Dan Lanning explained that he’s well aware of what this rivalry means.

“I don’t know if I’ve done as good a job reaching out to people [as before Washington], but I’m certainly well aware of what this rivalry looks like for us here and this team,” Dan Lanning said.

“If somebody’s got a great story, I certainly want to hear it.”

Oregon leads the all-time series 67-48-10. In recent years, the Ducks have dominated the Beavers, with Oregon State’s only win in the last five games coming in 2020.

Dan Lanning on Ben Gulbranson

Oregon State is going to be a tough out for the Ducks, in large part due to their quarterback, Ben Gulbranson. Dan Lanning explained what makes Gulbranson so tough.

“You see a lot of visible checks where he’s able to get them in the right play. You know, checking runs away from rotation, doing a lot of different things from a systematic standpoint to put them into good plays,” Dan Lanning said.

“Obviously, he’s understanding their system and it’s a tough system. They do a lot of different stuff. So, being able to operate that the way he operates is impressive.”

An update on Bo Nix

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has been dealing with an ankle injury. Head coach Dan Lanning gave an update on him ahead of the game against Oregon State.

“I think it’s evaluated every single day. We’ll see. We have a great medical staff, they do a good job. Bo understands. He’s been playing the game for a long time, he understands the way his body feels,” Dan Lanning said.

“Obviously he was able to go out there on Saturday, but we’ll keep evaluating as we get closer to each game.”
