Four-star quarterback Austin Novosad of Dripping Springs (TX) High flipped his commitment from Baylor to Oregon Wednesday morning.

The 6-foot-3, 185 pounder had been committed to the Bears since last December.

Novosad on why he chose Oregon

“The main reason that stood out to me was the connection I had with Will Stein prior to the OC job at Oregon,” Novosad said. “We’ve had a connection for a while now so once he got the job he wanted me to go be a duck. Also the culture and team that coach Lanning creates is amazing. He’s a very special guy when you get to meet him and talk with him. Lastly, the offensive fit that Oregon brought to the table was hard to pass up. The ability to play in big games and throw to some big time playmakers was also a big part in my decision.”

Texas to Oregon

“The distance is far but I think this class is special because of how many Texas guys are going up there,” Novosad said. “Most of us are already close and several guys on staff all have Texas ties so it’s easy to relate with many people within the program. It’ll be far but allow everyone a great opportunity.”

Austin Novosad Scouting Summary

“Stat-stuffing pure pocket passer with clean mechanics and the ability to throw with timing and touch. Plays in an air-it-out system at the high school level that puts up tons of points. Completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 3,399 yards and 40 touchdowns against 9 interceptions at 10.39 yards per attempt as a junior. Has a natural, tight throwing motion and spins the ball well. Most comfortable when sitting back and delivering from the pocket. Shows nuance as a passer with the ability to deliver well-located throws to all levels. Has room to add mass to his 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame. Tests as a solid athlete, running a 4.87 second 40-yard dash and jumping 34 inches in the vertical.”

Novosad ranks as the No. 117 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 10 quarterback and the No. 21 player in the state of Texas.
