Tensions had been high all week heading into Saturday night’s Pac-12 matchup between No. 4 Oregon and Washington, especially after Huskies’ head coach Jimmy Lake made a controversial comment regarding the Ducks’ program and recruiting earlier in the week.

Although Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal didn’t publicly snap back at Lake’s comments during the week, he certainly shared his thoughts on Washington while speaking to his team in the locker room following the Ducks’ 26-16 win.

“Those fucking guys right there, they represent everything that’s wrong with football,” Cristobal said. “So when you kick their ass, you let them know it.”

While Cristobal had those words to say about Lake and the Huskies in the locker room, he also didn’t shy away of making a public shot at Washington – using the well-known “academic prowess” comment after the rain game concluded.

“Proud of the way our guys came over and showed their prowess in the inclement weather,” Cristobal said.

It’s no secret that the two schools are rivals, and even more so now because of the bad blood the Washington coach started with his comments this past week, so Cristobal and Oregon took their win Saturday to heart.

The Ducks, who moved to 8-1 on the year and 5-1 in Pac-12 play with the victory over the Huskies, are likely to remain in the College Football Playoff Top 25 this week heading into Saturday’s game against Washington State in Eugene.

Mario Cristobal’s response to Jimmy Lake’s comments

Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal responded to Washington coach Jimmy Lake’s comments about the Ducks, but didn’t snap back at him. He instead took the high road and made it clear that his primary focus was on one thing at the time.

“Every single ounce of our focus is on the game,” Cristobal said, according to Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire.

Cristobal certainly wasn’t messing around, as his squad recorded the 10-point win over the Washington team whose head man was probably too busy thinking about recruiting instead of the game itself.
