Oregon offensive analyst Jordan Somerville is taking an NFL job, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Somerville is reportedly joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to serve as the quarterbacks coach.

Somerville, prior to joining the Oregon, served as the running backs coach at New Mexico. He was hired by Oregon in January 2022.

With the Ducks, Somerville helped coach quarterbacks with offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. Under their guidance, quarterback Bo Nix had a career season, leading a resurgent Oregon team.

Oregon officially announces new hires to their Player Development staff

The Oregon Ducks officially announced the new hires of Osman Kamara and Karl Holmes to their Player Development staff for their football program. They announced the move on their Twitter feed in February. Kamara was named as the Director of Player Development and Holmes was named as the Assistant Director of Player Development, per the release from the Twitter page.

Check out the announcement below from the school.

Oregon announces two additions to Player Development staff

In Osman Kamara’s release, he wrote:

“We are a resource for our student-athletes to ensure they are setting themselves up for success on and off the field. We develop our student athletes leadership skills, discipline, accountability, character, and life skills”

“These young men are investing in our program as well as themselves to obtain a future of high achievement. We’re developing the man and the athlete, preparing them for life and a professional career. That is our standard,” Kamara wrote.

During his playing career, Kamara played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers, playing at defensive back and excelling at special teams. He was originally a walk-on for the team, before eventually earning a scholarship. Kamara earned the Tom Nickolich Award, given to the outstanding walk-on in the program.

Karl Holmes’ statement in his press release

Then there was the release for Karl Holmes.

“Player development is the most important work within a program. We engage and equip young men with valuable life tools that will prepare them for life post-football through career development, community service, and outreach, leadership development, and personal enhancement and responsibility,” Holmes wrote.

“The impact is greater than the scoreboard or stats, they have to feel you’re a part of them and they’re a part of you,” he wrote in the release.

Oregon finished with a 10-3 overall record last year, including a 28-27 Holiday Bowl victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels. They got a spectacular season out of quarterback Bo Nix, who was in the Heisman Trophy conversation for much of the 2022-2023 season. He’s a major reason why so many are excited about the Ducks for next season. On3’s J.D. PicKell thinks the Ducks are primed to take the next step forward towards the College Football Playoff field in 2023.
