Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie three-star interior offensive lineman Sandman Thompson has announced his commitment to Oregon. He chose the Ducks over offers from Miami, Ole Miss and Tennessee among others.

Thompson is the No. 375 overall prospect and No. 21 interior offensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 55 player in Florida.

“I like that they are always in the national title picture,” Thompson told Sean Nelson of Scoop Duck about Oregon on March 2. “Everybody has told me that coach (Dan) Lanning is incredible.”

“Coach (A’lique) Terry is from Florida, which gives me a lot of comfort if I would go there,” he added about the Ducks’ offensive line coach. “He seems like he can get me to the next level.”

Thompson is the second member of Oregon’s 2025 recruiting class. Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Bay Tech four-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson chose Lanning and his staff on Jan. 18.

“The reason I committed to Oregon so early in the process was because I felt like family in the few minutes we had to talk and I felt like I can relate and be in a position where my family has never been,” Wilson told Nelson on Jan. 21.

Before pledging to Oregon, Thompson took an unofficial visit to Miami on March 5. Florida State also hosted him multiple times.

“I just want to feel like the school needs me and wants me,” Thompson said. “I want to feel the love. I think I could be an impact (player) with my leadership and ability on the field, so I want to feel that I am a priority.”

Oregon is also finding success in the 2024 cycle

In addition to their 2025 class, the Ducks are landing talented prospects in the 2024 cycle. Right now, Oregon’s 2024 recruiting class is No. 9 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 1 in the Pac-12.

Lanning and Co. have landed four juniors this month. They are Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star cornerback Ify Obidegwu, Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star quarterback Michael Van Buren, Durant (Okla.) four-star defensive lineman Xadavien Sims and San Jacinto (Calif.) On3 four-star wide receiver Dillon Gresham.

“It’s time to recruit this class and make this the No. 1 class in the country,” Van Buren told On3’s Chad Simmons on May 20. “I feel like when I put that out there, it could spark decisions from a bunch of other recruits.”
