Neeo Avery is a jumbo-athlete out of Glen Burnie (Md.) Good Councel that has offers to play tight end and defensive end on the next level. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound four-star almost committed to Georgia over the summer, but took more time, evaluated his options, and he has committed to Penn State.

“Penn State is the school for me,” Avery said. “I picked Penn State over Georgia and Kentucky. They have been very consistent with me, they are very honest with me, and I have been thinking hard about Penn State for about two or three months.”

The No. 169 prospect in the On3 Consensus is the 7th 2023 commitment for Penn State. James Franklin is putting together another strong class.

“I believe in coach Franklin. I believe in his program. He is very upfront, he is honest, he has never misled me, and he is a coach I want to play for.

“Coach Franklin is a great coach. He is very real and I love how he is in tune with the players on his team.”

This commitment feels right for Avery. He is still going to be recruited, but this commitment means a lot to him.

“I am closing my recruitment down. I am 110% committed to Penn State. This is it for me.”

Avery feels at home at Penn State

Avery has taken four or five visits to Penn State. He has spent time around the coaches, he was there for the White Out game against Auburn, and he has a great feel for Happy Valley.

“It is like a big family at Penn State,” Avery said. “The feeling is like I am at home there. It is really that simple. I want to be a part of that family.”

He gave that news to Franklin right before Christmas.

“We were talking on face-time and that is when I committed to him and Penn State. I definitely caught him by surprise with the news.

“As soon as I told him, he jumped out of his chair and started running around. He was screaming, he was excited, and it was a great feeling.

“I like who he is as coach and person, so it was great seeing him that excited about me.”

Penn State is getting a versatile athlete in Avery

Some schools even liked Avery at quarterback early on. He is as versatile as there come, and Penn State sees that.

“They have given me the option to play offense or defense,” Avery said. “They like me on both sides of the ball, and I feel I can excel at defensive end or tight end, so that will be a decision I make down the road.”

Avery ranks as the No. 10 tight end in the country.
