Penn State‘s 2022 recruiting class is one of the best in the country. James Franklin and his squad are getting a head start on the 2023 class reaching that level as well.

Reading (Pa.) Exeter Township tight end Joey Schlaffer committed to the Nittany Lions on Saturday to become the fourth member of their 2023 recruiting class.

According to the Reading Eagle, he told Franklin of his commitment at midfield Saturday before Penn State’s homecoming game against Illinois.

He has 31 catches for 567 yards and four touchdowns in nine games this season.

Schlaffer is the half-brother of former Penn State offensive lineman Michal Menet. Menet was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

“People say when you know you know, and its true,” Joey Schlaffer wrote. “The love that I developed coming to Happy Valley for years watching my brother never left me.”

The 2023 recruiting class also includes Ashburn (Va.) Broad Run interior offensive lineman and On300 member Alex Birchmeier, Fredericksburg (Va.) Riverbend tight end Mathias Barnwell and Bridgeville (Pa.) Chartiers Valley cornerback Lamont Payne.

Birchmeier is the No. 40 overall recruit in the 2023 On300 rankings and the fourth-highest prospect in the class to have already announced his commitment.
