Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy offensive tackle Andre Roye gave Penn State head coach James Franklin yet another win last week, committing to the Nittany Lions over offers from Maryland, Arizona State, Rutgers and others.

Roye, a 6-foot-6, 320-pound behemoth, is a consensus three-star and becomes Penn State’s fourth offensive tackle commit in the 2022 class. He joins On300 tackle Drew Shelton, along with three-stars JB Nelson and Maleek McNeil. In total, Penn State has 11 commits in the 2022 On300 rankings, tied for third-most of any school in the country behind Notre Dame, Alabama, and Ohio State. Not bad company to keep.

Andre Roye has faced plenty of good competition

At St. Frances, Andre Roye has gotten plenty of exposure to elite talent. He has faced off this season against Florida power St. Thomas Aquinas and D.C. area standout Good Counsel. Left on the schedule are games against Virginia’s Life Christian Academy, New Jersey’s The Hun School and Florida’s IMG Academy, which features four of the top 17 recruits in the state on its defense alone.

Penn State has a loaded 2022 class

With more a little less than three months until the early signing period opens, Penn State already has a full class of 25 commitments, which for now gives them one of the top-ranked recruiting classes in the country. But with the NCAA likely to approve a rule allowing schools to sign up to seven more players to account for transfers out of the program, Franklin and Co. certainly aren’t done.

The outgoing transfers must leave after the early signing period (December 15-17), which is put in place to prevent current players from being pushed out for new ones who could sign in December and join the team for the spring semester.

The Nittany Lions remain in contention for a number of prospects still on the board, and with the new rule expected to be approved October 5, they’re likely to add players this winter who would be able to sign national letters on intent during the spring signing period in February.
