Medina (Ohio) High quarterback Drew Allar showed again Friday night why he’s one of the elite quarterback prospects in his class, and also why Penn State is so excited to get him on campus.

Allar, the No. 47 player in the industry-generated On3 Consensus, tossed three first-half touchdown passes as his Medina squad romped to a 21-0 lead. On the first (below), Allar dropped the ball perfectly in to a streaking receiver, who made his own impressive catch. Allar late threw a screen pass for a 62-yard touchdown, and another 29-yard strike across his body on the run to his left.

Allar has completed 65.3 percent of passes for 3,430 yards and 40 touchdowns with only three interceptions this season. He has added seven rushing touchdowns as well.

Drew Allar could be a Day 1 starter at Penn State

Allar, the No. 21 overall player according to On3, has made a major case to be considered the best quarterback in this class.

“We’ve seen Allar get increasingly more comfortable as the season has progressed,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said earlier this month. “He’s been rolling in recent weeks. The Penn State quarterback pledge has continued to show his strong, downfield arm. He’s able to flick the ball around and touch all areas of the field. The arm talent continues to look like it’s among the best in the class.”

With senior quarterback Sean Clifford likely graduating and moving on after this season, Penn State should have an intense quarterback competition this spring. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Drew Allar running the offense when the Nittany Lions open the 2022 season.

Blue and White Illustrated’s Ryan Snyder had high praise for Allar earlier this week, naming him Penn State’s biggest commit.

“While Trace McSorley and Clifford have both been pretty good for Penn State under Franklin, not having that elite quarterback play that Ohio State has had in recent years has played a major role in the Nittany Lions not getting over the hump.”
