Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy four-star Carey Booth has committed to Penn State, he told On3.

He becomes the Nittany Lions’ second-highest ranked commitment in the modern recruiting era, only behind Tony Carr.

The 6-foot-10 power forward is the son of former Nittany Lions star and current Denver Nuggets General Manager Calvin Booth.

Along with Penn State, Carey Booth also received offers from Michigan, Miami, Texas, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Stanford, and others.

Booth, a native of Denver, Colo., is the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 14 power forward and the No. 3 player in the state of New Hampshire.

Carey Booth on his commitment to Penn State

“I chose Penn State because they recruited me the hardest out of all the schools, and I really believe in coach (Micah) Shrewsberry’s ability to coach,” Booth said to On3. “I think we will win a lot of games in the Big 10.”

What type of player is Penn State getting in Carey Booth?

“The program is getting a player who is willing to be coached, has a high work ethic, can really shoot the ball, and has a great combination of energy and athleticism,” Booth says.

Booth has a message for Penn State fans.

“We’re really going to turn things around at Penn State and change the basketball tradition at this school.”

Booth spoke further about Penn State in a previous interview with On3.

“I think Micah Shrewsberry is one of the best coaches in college basketball right now,” Booth said previously. “He’s a really strong offensive mind, and he pays attention to defense too. I think he is going to do something very special at Penn State. They see me as a four, someone who can play defense and stretch the floor. I think my talent could be showcased if I went there. One thing that stood out about Shrewsberry is that Penn State’s basketball tradition isn’t very good, but you can tell he really wants to win. He wants to change things there.”

Scouting Summary

Carey Booth has a long and lanky frame with natural athleticism. He plays with a high motor, creating multiple chase-down and weakside blocks. Booth knocked down three or four threes in both games we watched; the release was consistent and high. Booth is still raw as he will need to continue tightening his ball skills and shot selection. He will also need to continue adding weight. However, the intrigue comes with his ability to knock down threes and protect the rim. Continue building on that, and there could be a long and productive career in store.
