Few programs have had the momentum in 2022 class that Penn State and head coach James Franklin have. Despite a very mediocre 4-5 record in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, the Nittany Lions have been rolling on the recruiting trail.

In the latest iteration of the 2022 On300 rankings released today, Penn State has 11 commits rated among the top-300 nationally, tied for the fourth-most of any team behind Notre Dame (13), Alabama (12) and Ohio State (12).

Although none have ascended to five-star status in this version, two are very much in the running for when On3 expands to 32 five-star prospects in its final rankings of the year. Leading Penn State commits in the On300 is quarterback Drew Allar, just one spot outside five-star status currently, jumped from No. 28 overall to No. 21. Running back commit Nicholas Singleton is right in the five-star ballpark as well, leaping up from No. 45 all the way up to No. 24 in the newly released rankings.

Penn State commits make big moves updated rankings

The Nittany Lions have nine others who have reached four-star status, and a few have made massive jumps in the rankings after being evaluated at camps this summer and based off of their high school season performance to date. The rating scale is as follows: Five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, while 80-89 grades are for three-stars.

Dani Dennis-Sutton, a defensive lineman from Owings Mills (Md.) McDonogh School, is up three spots overall to No. 39, while Abdul Carter (No. 172) and Anthony Ivey (No. 240) jumped into the rankings after being unranked previously. Other ranked commits include: CB Cam Miller (No. 162), WR Kaden Saunders (No. 167), OT Drew Shelton (No. 190), TE Jerry Cross (No. 198), S Jordan Allen (No. 253), and WR Tyler Johnson (No. 288).

After a recent commitment from three-star offensive tackle Andre Roye, the Nittany Lions have 25 commitments in the 2022 class.
