Former Penn State Nittany Lions defensive lineman Cole Brevard is returning to the Big Ten conference after a stint in the transfer portal, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz. Brevard, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle and former four-star prospect, is transferring to Purdue.

A class of 2020 signee, Brevard spent the last two seasons at Penn State as a scout team contributor. He saw minimal game action with the Nittany Lions before ultimately opting to find a new home. He made his first career appearance in the Rutgers win but has a clean stat sheet.

The defensive tackle left Carmel High in Carmel, Indiana, as the state’s No. 2 college football prospect and No. 384 overall in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As this is the first transfer of his career, he is immediately eligible to play next season for the Boilermakers.

Purdue receiver Milton Wright ruled academically ineligible

According to a report on Saturday, Purdue receiver Milton Wright is no longer with the team after being ruled academically ineligible. Wright was positioned to be the No. 1 receiving option for the Boilermakers this season after David Bell left for the NFL.

“Purdue receiver Milton Wright failed to meet academic eligibility standards and is no longer on the team,” read the report by GoldandBlack.com.

The news that Wright is fully ineligible now comes as somewhat of a surprise. The rising star receiver was taking steps to focus on his academics — even at the expense of being on the practice field. He missed Purdue’s final game of the season in the Music City Bowl because of academics. He was also unavailable for spring drills while focusing on his eligibility.

Wright is a former four-star recruit for Purdue according to the On3 Consensus Rankings, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. He entered the collegiate ranks in the 2019 recruiting class as the 30th-ranked receiver in the nation.

Wright caught 57 passes last season for 732 yards and seven touchdowns, becoming a reliable option behind David Bell. The loss of Wright is a large blow to Purdue, but there is plenty of depth at the position. Broc Thompson and T.J. Sheffield both caught touchdowns in the Music City Bowl with Wright out. Thompson had a particularly stellar game, catching seven passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns.
