Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star running back Anthony Carrie named his top schools of Michigan StateNorth CarolinaNotre DameOklahomaOle Miss and South Carolina on March 25.

While his recruitment remained fairly wide-open up to that point, one of those six recently emerged as the heavy favorite in Carrie’s recruitment.

Following recent industry updates, South Carolina is trending to land a commitment from Carrie according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

The Gamecocks now hold a 85.5% percent chance of securing Carrie’s commitment. Florida and Georgia sit far behind with less than a four percent chance each.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder is the No. 282 overall prospect and No. 24 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 40 player in Florida.

Carrie was last in Columbia in mid-March as he attended one of the Gamecocks’ spring practices.

“I have already visited twice and it is a place I like,” Carrie told On3 following the release of his top schools. “They have been consistent with me and they have shown me they can use me. It feels like family to me there.”

“At South Carolina I love the people in the building,” he added to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “I see an opportunity to play there early.”

Carrie has been recruited heavily by South Carolina running backs coach Montario Hardesty since they got involved in his recruitment and attributes him as one of the reasons why the Gamecocks have been so high in his recruitment.

“Me and Coach Hardesty have always great relationship too,” Carrie said. “I like the location too and it felt like home.”

How South Carolina’s class is stacking up

South Carolina signed a top-20 class in the 2023 cycle and the Gamecocks look to be on their way to signing a class that finishes significantly higher than that.

Currently the Gamecocks have seven commitments in a class that ranks No. 6 in the country and No. 4 in the SEC.

Aside from four-star quarterback Dante Reno who announced his pledge last July, the remainder of South Carolina’s commitments have come this year.

In January the Gamecocks picked up a trio of commitments from four-star offensive tackle Kam Pringle, four-star tight end Michael Smith and four-star linebacker Wendell Gregory. Four-star wide receiver Mazeo Bennett announced his commitment to South Carolina on Feb. 3 and was the Gamecocks last commitment until the spring.

Three-star interior offensive lineman Blake Franks committed to South Carolina on March 31 and the Gamecocks landed their highest ranked commitment on April 14 in Josiah Thompson.
