South Carolina posted a statement win on Saturday versus the Kentucky Wildcats, even with a laundry list of players that weren’t able to contribute. Head coach Shane Beamer revealed the status of several injured Gamecocks after the 24-14 win.

“I think we’ll be OK. RJ (Roderick) hurt his hip against S.C. State. He practiced some this week but got to the end of the week and didn’t feel like he was good enough,” Beamer began.

Devonni Reed, he has a little bit of an arm injury that he suffered against South Carolina State. He practiced this week, but we didn’t feel comfortable putting him out there tonight with that specific injury. Christian Beal-Smith got hurt in practice after I talked to you guys on Tuesday. He aggravated his foot a little bit. Hopefully, he’s not long-term. Same thing with Trai Jones, he should be back. For the most part, we should get those back next week.”

“I forgot about Alex Huntley and Corey Rucker… Rucker practiced, Boogie practiced but (we) didn’t feel like they were going to be 100 percent tonight,” Beamer added. “We didn’t need to come up here with anybody who wasn’t 100 percent, necessarily. Think both of those guys should be back next week as well.”

Although there’s still plenty of uncertainty, Beamer’s updates come ahead of the Gamecocks’ bye week. If his players are still banged up next week, they have another to get ready to face the Aggies in Week 8.

Beamer shares meaning of win over Kentucky

After the win, Beamer opened up to Cole Cubelic about how much the win over Kentucky meant to him and his team.

“I would describe it as one hell of a win,” Beamer said. “I didn’t make a big deal out of this week, but it’s not lost on me that two years ago when South Carolina came up here, they were at the bottom. Literally, during the game here in Lexington is when it was announced that I was going to be the head coach at South Carolina.

“Those guys went into that locker room after the game and were probably like, ‘Who in the hell is Shane Beamer?’ For us to come two years later to come right back up here and arguably have the biggest win here in a long, long time is pretty special.”
