Spencer Rattler didn’t live up to expectations at Oklahoma in 2021, leading to him being benched for Caleb Williams. From there, the former five-star recruit hit the transfer portal and landed at South Carolina. The Gamecocks had their own quarterback problems in 2021, which included needing to start a graduate assistant at quarterback.

Now, there is hope that Spencer Rattler can turn around his college career and South Carolina’s future on offense. Rattler touched on how the offense has improved, explaining that the team’s defense is making the offense better.

“Yeah, they’re all super talented,” Spencer Rattler praised the team’s secondary. “Long, you know, aggressive, can make plays, have speed.”

“So, they give us a good matchup every single day. You know, that’s making us better. Not just myself but the receivers, running backs, everybody that’s gotta go up against them. So, they’re great.”

Spencer Rattler confirmed that Cam Smith is the best trash talker on the defense. At the same time, nothing is personal because everyone knows that they’re elevating each other’s play.

“It’s fun. I mean, it helps your game every day. It elevates you when you know you got those guys in the secondary and up front, you know, with Zacch Pickens and all them dogs up front, and even the linebackers as well. So, going against, you know, those 11 guys on the field, you gotta bring your A-game every day in practice. So, they’re gonna give us different looks, crazy looks, and it just helps you overall.”

“But, it’s fun,” Spencer Rattler said. “You know, to make some plays on them. And, you know, it’s also a learning experience when they make a play on you. So, it goes both ways.”

Spencer Rattler gave his thoughts on the offense

Spencer Rattler also gave his thoughts on the South Carolina offense, following a recent scrimmage by the team.

“It was fun,” said Spencer Rattler. “We got down the field in the redzone. Our emphasis now is on finishing in the redzone. We had a few things we had to fix up, but it was fun. We looked good, we made some explosive plays. Ran the ball well, threw the ball well. Obviously, we’ve got another week plus to work, so we’re excited to see our growth”

“We’ve only had one week of redzone before the scrimmage, so not giving ourselves an out or an excuse, but we’ve got to rep it more. We will rep it more. Our coaches will put us in the right positions and we’ll rep it and get better at it. I’m super confident we’ll do that.”
