Syracuse has landed a commitment from Duquesne transfer big man Mounir Hima, he told On3.

The 6-foot-11 center, originally from Niger, officially visited the Orange on Monday and Tuesday, according to a report from Andrew Slater of Pro Insight.

To go along with Syracuse, Hima also garnered interest from Charlotte, Brown, Southern Illinois, Radford, UIC, Santa Clara, and others.

Hima redshirted during the 2020-21 season but saw game action this past season. The big man appeared in 21 games, with starts in the season’s final five games. He scored a career-high nine points (3-of-3 from the field) in only 15 minutes against St. Bonaventure. Hima also grabbed 10 rebounds in his first career start versus Davidson in February. On the year, Hima averaged 1.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game.

Head coach Jim Boeheim and the Orange have now formed a seven-man recruiting class in 2022. Hima will join six incoming freshmen — four-star CG Judah Mintz, four-star SF Chris Bunch, three-star SF Justin Taylor, three-star CG Quadir Copeland, three-star PF Maliq Brown, and three-star PF Peter Carey.

Before landing at Duquesne, Hima played his junior and senior years of high school at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J. As a senior, he averaged eight points, eight rebounds, and three blocks per game. Hima also considered Rhode Island, UMass, VCU, Pitt, Texas A&M, and others before choosing Duquesne.
