With roughly 2:30 to go before the halftime break against Kansas, TCU big man Eddie Lampkin Jr. landed awkwardly on his left ankle during a Horned Frogs possession and immediately grabbed for it as he fell to the ground. He writhed in pain on the baseline as TCU trainers rushed out to check on him.

Lampkin lied on the floor for a minute or so and eventually had to be helped up and off the floor. He and the training staffers who carried him off led Lampkin straight to the locker room since halftime was so close. During the halftime break, college hoops analyst Jeff Goodman reported that Lampkin had suffered a high-ankle sprain.

Here was the news, which he broke on Twitter:

“TCU’s Eddie Lampkin has a high ankle sprain, spokesman told @Stadium.”

Just a bad break for Eddie Lampkin and TCU. The sophomore is the heart and soul of the TCU front-line and it looks like he’ll be out for at least the rest of today’s game and likely another game or two going forward. However, it’s still good news if he has avoided any major injuries to his lower leg.

UPDATE: Lampkin re-enters game

Despite reports of a serious sprain for Eddie Lampkin, the big fella came back into the game with 15 minutes to go in the game as TCU led 55-40. However, he came in and moved around with an obvious limp and doesn’t look remotely close to 100% at the moment.

But credit Lampkin, because on his first post touch after coming back in the game, he pulled off a spin move and laid in a bucket. What toughness from Lampkin to play through the injury when he’s so clearly in pain.

After a couple minutes and the one bucket in the second half, Jamie Dixon yanked Lampkin and put him back on the bench to apparently take care of some blood that was on his jersey. A roller-coaster injury situation for the Horned Frogs in Lawrence.
