TCU hoops is getting a massive boost as they head to Manhattan to take on Kansas State tonight, because 6-foot-11, 300-pound starting center Eddie Lampkin is returning to the lineup after missing a number of games the last few weeks due to an ankle injury he suffered back on Jan. 21 against Kansas. He actually returned to that game and played on the bum ankle before eventually sitting out. Then, ten days later, on Jan. 31, he gave it a go vs. West Virginia but was in pain and wound up having to sit out another week. Today, though, he says he’s coming back.

Forget sources, because the big fella went ahead and announced the tremendous news himself on Twitter. He simply tweeted that he’s back and ready to rock and roll against the Wildcats tonight. Here was said tweet:

Look at that, he even provided folks with the time and television station where Eddie Lampkin fans can tune in to his momentous return to the basketball court. Again, a huge boost for a TCU team that simply hasn’t been fully healthy for most of the season.

Lampkin initially played through injury

Despite reports of a serious ankle sprain for Eddie Lampkin, the big fella came back into the Kansas game with 15 minutes to go as TCU led 55-40. However, he came in and moved around with an obvious limp and didn’t look remotely close to 100% in the moment. But credit Lampkin, because on his first post touch after coming back in the game, he pulled off a spin move and laid in a bucket. What toughness from Lampkin to play through the injury when he’s so clearly in pain.

After a couple minutes and the one bucket in the second half, Jamie Dixon yanked Lampkin and put him back on the bench to apparently take care of some blood that was on his jersey. He didn’t re-enter the game after that and went on to miss the next several due to the injury he sustained in that first half. It was a roller-coaster injury situation for the Horned Frogs’ big man in Lawrence.
