A scary moment occurred on Saturday at William-Brice Stadium, with Tennessee defensive back Brandon Turnage going down with an injury. In what originally seemed like a normal play, with South Carolina connecting on a pass on their own sideline, Turnage stayed down.

He immediately reached for his leg area, with the left ankle being the problem. As he jumped mid-air to defend a Spencer Rattler pass, you could tell there was something wrong.

Turnage eventually was helped up and helped off the field toward the locker room. ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe reported on what she saw, saying the Tennessee training staff was focusing on that left ankle.

“They’re actually looking at his left ankle,” Rowe said. “They’ve taken his shoe off. He’s not able to put any weight on that ankle as they go to the locker room. The athletic training staff has been using their fingers to slide up the bones of that ankle to make sure that he’s okay. As you can see, can’t put any weight on that right now.”

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker goes down with injury

Turnage was not the only injury Tennessee had to deal with on Saturday.

A scary moment took place with quarterback Hendon Hooker, who went down with a non-contact injury. The Volunteers’ staff immediately went to tend to him, while Hooker was grabbing around his leg.

According to the ESPN broadcast, Hooker was able to limp off after being treated for a knee injury. Sideline reporter Holly Rowe said there was some weight being put on the leg as Hooker walked into the medical tent.

“Hendon Hooker was able to walk off the field,” Rowe said. “He was putting weight on that left leg as he very carefully walked into the injury tent. His head was down, teammates were hugging him… He was able to put weight on that left leg.”
