Joe Milton is stepping into a big spot with the Tennessee Volunteers. For the second time during his time on Rocky Top, Milton is expected to enter a season as the starting quarterback. He will be replacing Hendon Hooker, who brought new life into the program alongside head coach Josh Heupel.

There might be some questions around Milton but one thing is for sure. The dude has some serious arm talent — potentially best in the country. Over the past few years, videos of Milton have emerged of him launching a ball downfield.

On Saturday, another one went viral on Twitter. This time, Milton had a throw of 85 yards. And then just for fun, a backflip was included, showing off the quarterback’s athleticism. A special talent who will be hoping to put it all together for Tennessee this season.

You can watch the throw from Milton here.

If anyone is going to love this video, it’s Tennessee wide receivers. Plenty serve as vertical threats and will be looking to have large chunk plays. They will never have to wonder if Milton will have enough arm to get them the ball. He’s going to have plenty of arm strength, no matter the scenario.

As it’s the offseason, Milton is just having some fun showcasing his talents. Showing up at camps and putting on a mini-show is entertaining for all. But Milton will be all business once against when fall camp begins, hoping to continue the positive trajectory of the Tennessee program.

2023 expectations high for Joe Milton

Expectations for Milton are high this season and for good reason. He played well against Clemson in the Orange Bowl following Hooker’s ACL tear a few weeks prior. While there still might be a few boxes to check, Tennessee has to feel good about its quarterback situation at the moment.

On3 recently ranked the top 100 players in the country and Milton did make the list. He was the No. 81 overall player and slotted in as the ninth quarterback. But Milton was the SEC’s best-ranked quarterback, being one of the few with some good SEC experience.

In 17 career games with Tennessee, Milton has thrown for 1,346 yards, 12 touchdowns, and no interceptions on 14 pass attempts. The sample size is not too large heading in 2023 but nonetheless, those cheering for the Vols in Knoxville are excited for Milton to steer the ship.
