Two Tennessee football players — linebacker William Mohan and offensive lineman Savion Herring — have been dismissed from the team following respective arrests for domestic assault, the Knoxville News Sentinel has reported.

Herring had been arrested this week and was confirmed to be dismissed from the team on Friday by the Knoxville News. Mohan had been arrested on Aug. 23 and was confirmed as dismissed on Sept. 5 by the Knoxville news, according to the report.

Neither player appeared in a game for the Volunteers this season. Mohan played last season, mostly on special teams, after transferring to Knoxville from Michigan. Herring was a junior college transfer and this was his first season at Tennessee. Herring, a New Jersey native, played the previous two seasons at Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York.

William Mohan was originally suspended after his arrest in August

Mohan is facing an aggravated domestic assault charge following a Sunday arrest, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel’s Mike Wilson. A Volunteers spokesperson said he’s been suspended indefinitely as a result.

The incident occurred Sunday night and Mohan was arrested the next day following an arrest warrant, according to WVLT-TV. Officers were called to a domestic disturbance, but Mohan was gone by the time they arrived on the scene. The victim told police she invited Mohan over, but he was drunk and allegedly choked her. He ended up coming back and passed out on the couch, and the victim used his phone to try and get him a ride home, WVLT reported.

“We are aware of the recent arrest of football student-athlete William Mohan,” the spokesperson said in a statement, via Wilson. “He was immediately suspended indefinitely from all team activities.”
