Tennessee slugger Christian Moore belts solo shot to give Vols early 1-0 lead in Clemson Regional vs. Charlotte

The Tennessee Volunteers took an early 1-0 lead on the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday evening, after slugger Christian Moore belted a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning. The two teams are facing off in the Regional Final of the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Vols have been playing some exceptional baseball. They defeated the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night in what was one of the best games of the tournament thus far.

Tennessee slugger Christian Moore has been on fire lately

Moore has been playing some impressive baseball lately during his sophomore campaign for the Volunteers. His solo shot on Sunday evening was his third home run of the Clemson Regional. Moore tacked on another homer later in the game, bringing his total to four for the series. He also had a double, a home run, and a single in the Vols’ 6-5 win over Clemson in 14 innings.

Moore currently ranks second on the Vols’ roster in home runs this year. The stud sophomore also ranks first on the roster in total bases. He’s playing some of his best baseball when his team needs him the most. As a high school prospect, he was one of the most highly rated players in the country. He was ranked as the No. 102 overall prospect in the nation by Prep Baseball Report.

Tennessee ended up prevailing 9-2 in their game against Charlotte and in doing so, their punched their tickets to the Super Regionals. The Volunteers could potentially host their Super Regional games.

It will mark their third straight trip to Super Regionals.

The Vols’ pitching staff fired 15 strikeouts on Sunday, limiting the 49ers to just two runs. Tennessee got a nice pitching performance from sophomore Drew Beam, who tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts in six innings of work. He also allowed two runs on four hits.

Slugger Zane Denton blasted his third home run of the weekend to cap Tennessee’s three-run fourth inning. He’s been delivering some clutch hitting lately.

Tennessee will face the winner of the Southern Miss/Penn series in Super Regionals. The start time has not yet been determined.

The Volunteers have caught fire as of late, winning four of their last five games. With the win on Sunday, Tennessee currently sit at 41-19 overall for their 2023 campaign.

It’ll be interesting to see just how far they can make it in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
